This weekend we put our working hats on and decided to do some projects around our house.
We ordered a 20' wooden monogram from Etsy.com. We loved it as soon as it came, but it was unfinished wood so we decided to paint it. We used the same color paint that we used when we redid the 1/2 bath, an earthy green color. Richard used some dark brown paint (that the previous owners left) and painted on the edges to give the monogram some depth. He taped the whole monogram, painted the edges, then removed the tape, and went back over the front with green. Very time consuming but it turned out pretty.
We put the new monogram over the fire place, next to the canvas picture from our wedding.
Next, Richard and I picked up an old white bookshelf from my parent's house. This bookshelf is OLD and a little grungy.
We wanted to paint it a statement color (not like the neutrals in the rest of the house) because it is going in the craft/office/library room and I wanted it to "give me inspiration" when I am crafting. Plus, it's fun to have some crazy colors around. Richard let me pick the color I wanted and I landed on BLUE! We bought a quart of "Jamaican Sea" and went to town on it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it turned out and it looks really nice in the room!
Then, we decided to hang some frames and letters I made above our bed. The frames were actually above the fire place but we removed them when we put the monogram up. The "RJ" letters were an inspiration from Pinterest. Richard is a math whiz and figured out all the measurements to make the wall hangings even. I just handed him the supplies he needed. I really like how they look above the bed!
SOOO that wraps up our weekend of household additions!!
