Monday December 30th, I had off from work, so I met Richard to have lunch. On the way home I got to thinking that my period was late and maybe I should just get a test to see because the next day was New Year's Eve and I knew we would at least be toasting with champagne at midnight. I stopped at Walgreen near our house and bought a test (that came with two sticks) and went on home to take it. I used the first stick and it had a positive line, I was in shock. I decided I would wait a bit and then use the other stick, just to make sure. After a few hours (I took a nap), I used stick number 2 and it was also positive. By this point I had decided this was FOR REAL! I had been collecting things over the year to make a little "Daddy" basket for RC, but since I wasn't expecting to get pregnant I wasn't done with it. So, off I went to TJ Maxx for a cute basket and Target for some supplies. While at Target, I bought the Clearblue test that predicts how far you are. I went home and took that test and it said 2-3 weeks. I know that the hormone level changes throughout the day (which is why they say to take a test in the morning) so I wasn't sure how accurate that was. From looking online and the date of my last period, I figured I was about 5 weeks at that point. So the rest of the day was spent being nervous and waiting for Richard to get home. On Monday's he gets off at 7pm, and trust me, those were the longest few hours of my life.
My plan was to be very calm, cool, and collected and give RC a golf ball I had written "You're going to be a dad" on. The reason I did a golf ball is because in golf, you have to mark your balls so that when you have to look for your ball, you know which one is yours. I normally mark all of Richard's golf balls and write (mostly) funny things on them. I was a nervous wreck my the time I heard him pull into the drive way. I feel like I assaulted him at the front door, shoved the ball in his face, and did NOT act near how I wanted to. It was a cute moment though because Richard was in shock and didn't understand/believe me at first. He said "How do you know?" and I said "I took a test!" He loved his basket of gifts and was really excited once the shock wore off. The rest of the night, we just relaxed and talked about our exciting new adventure!
